The resident certificate, sometimes called a “Certificate of Residence” or TM16, is issued by the local immigration office or sometimes your embassy. It confirms your legal address in Thailand but does NOT grant any immigration or residency rights. It is widely used for banking, vehicle transactions, and Thai driving licenses.

How Long Is a Resident Certificate Valid?
The resident certificate is generally valid for 30 days from issuance. This limitation means you should request the certificate close to when you will use it, such as before registering a car or applying for a Thai driving license.
The certificate’s expiration will never extend beyond your current legal stay in Thailand. If your visa or entry stamp expires in fewer than 30 days, the certificate’s validity will match that expiration date.
Original certificates must be presented. Photocopies are not accepted. If multiple uses are expected, request additional originals during application.
